These are 4 'before' pictures that show our Biofalls, before we replaced it with a bog.. I'm not sure when this first one was taken.
August 13, 2003
This one was taken August 25, 2003. Generally, we were never successful getting anything to grow well in our biofalls. We tried Water Hyacinth, Water Lettuce, and European Brook Lime -- all of them did okay for a while, but they didn't spread well, and eventually turned brown and died. The picture below shows some Water Hyacinth (bottom left) we got from a guy late in the summer that called in to KFOR looking for anyone who wanted to come and get as much Water Hyacinth as they wanted. I came home with several lawn bags full and it seemed to do okay.
Functionally, our biofalls worked fine as a bilogical filter for our water feature, but I was never thrilled with it aesthetically. I could just never get it to look natural. It was also a bit labor intensive on the maintanence. This one was taken May 14, 2004.
